Ratchet is, of course, a humble furry Lombax with a spark of technical genius who has saved the galaxy from destruction so many times he desperately needs some peace and quiet. Yet he and his law-abiding droid friend Clank are inevitably pressed into action in issue #1, when a nefarious force that has been making entire planets disappear targets the remote world they've settled on! In issue #2, Ratchet and Clank are locked within an inescapable(?) prison complex, and the cellmate who seems to have taken the most interest in them is a fierce warrior they've clashed with in the past! Who is the mad, brilliant mind seeking to assemble a brand-new galaxy from pieces of Ratchet's galaxy? And what role did the questionably venal and incompetent Captain (now Galactic President) Quark have in starting all this madness? This is a nice addition to the series for any Ratchet and Clank fanatics, such as myself. I would recommend to anyone interested enough to give these comics a shot. The art for Ratchet can look a little strange at times, but other than that, the artwork in this comic is fantastic!

Too many of the pathology books get written with a lot of verbose dialogue. With all the information that you need to know, having a bullet pointed list of absolute facts is nice without having to sift for them. Great for taking notes in too. Think I may get the whole series.

A Beckett play that has had grown men (and women) in tears.

Probably the most famous of Beckett's last works, 'Rockaby' features an old woman rocking mechanically on her chair, listening to a recorded poem evoking a life perhaps similar to her own, solitary, staring out of her window at the shuttered windows opposite, yearning for a glimpse of humanity to justify a life she is close to cursing. It reads like a skittish remix of a story from Joyce's 'Dubliners'.
Like most of Beckett's late stage works, this doesn't really work on the page - the rhythmic combination of words, images, lighting and the mechanical rocking of the chair create a startling visual-aural effect that can only be incompletely imagined. Many believe it to be staggeringly moving, though.

Students of mathematics, physics, engineering, and other disciplines will find here an excellent guide to mathematical problem-solving techniques with a broad range of applications. For this edition the authors have provided a new section of Solutions and Hints to selected Problems. Suggestions for further reading complete the text.

a classic text in applied mathematics

This is one of the finest textbooks on applied mathematics. It is appropriate for a wide range of levels and disciplines. A moderately paced graduate class can finish most of the chapters in a full year. The first two chapters cover material that is difficult to find elsewhere and nowhere is it better handled. The real boon to this book is the constant integration of physical reasoning with solid mathematical theory. To be sure, many of the more complicated ideas are only mentioned, but the later chapters pick these up and go much further. It covers basic heat and wave applications, but also Brownian motion and gas dynamics. A solid calculus background is needed, which includes vector calculus and convergence issues. Eigenvalues and some functional analysis are needed. Many books on elementary partial differential equations spend all their time on the big three: heat, wave and Laplace. This is too low a level for any graduate class and doesn't create the excitement other applications provide. On the other hand, this book is accessible to many people. Often, graduate texts are thoroughly awash with Sobolev spaces and weak convergence and the physical problem, i.e., the actual model, is all but ignored. This classic text is the bridge between elementary and advanced applied mathematics. In some respects, it is self-contained. Guenther and Lee have written an indispensable book.

Great Illustrations, Poor Authorship

As an earlier review notes, this book is for children only. Children in the fourth or fifth grade, and especially sensitive children whom you do not wish to shock with notions of blood and violence. This book is more a history of the author's vacations with his family than of a war. And to be blunt, what makes this arrogant writer imagine that I have the tiniest interest in his son picking out a toy from some battlefield gift shop? Another ten year old might be interested in knowing that toys are available there, I will concede that. To an adult though this book is plainly annoying if not insulting. Gen. Joe Johnson's resistance to Gen. Sherman, which was one of the most intense and perhaps the most military campaigns of the whole war, is described as "dallying" before and "winking" at the enemy. That is what war represents? No deaths, no shattered bodies, just people "winking" at the enemy? Shameful.

The second star in the rating was earned by the illustrative content, which is excellent. Many books often use line drawing copies of famous works of art because they are cheaper to reproduce, however this one uses the originals. As the book is fairly common and copies may be had cheap, I would not say don't get one. Just don't bother reading it.

Excellent book for young people .

This well produced book was prepared for National Geographic . It is printed on the same glossy paper that lasts forever as the National Geographic magazine . I have it in hardback form ( I recommend it ) it has stitched binding . It's greatest feature is the wonderful color pictures , hundreds of them , some are contemporary to publishing date of battle fields , war sites and towns . Many are of great paintings done of Battles , People and events that depict the mid-1800s world . I highly recommend this book for students and adults . Any one who have read a National Geographic knows how well they can show a world gone by . This book is a winner for a student or would be student of American history . This book is partly written as a travel adventure of the author and his family , wife and two young children , visitation of many of the cities and battlefields . This manner of writing give it a quaint feeling . Buy it for yourself , buy for your kids .

IT DOES NOT MATTER THAT ITS COPYRIGHT WAS IN 1969...AND ITS 6th PRINTING WAS IN 1983..........ITS STILL AN EXCELLENT READ FROM THE AUTHORS' PERSPECTIVE AND HIS CHILDREN...

I'VE READ MANY BOOKS ABOUT 'THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES' AND IN THIS BOOK I LEARNED QUITE A FEW THINGS I DIDNT KNOW BEFORE.........
