An experience

This is an interesting book. It presents over 100 places to eat in Virginia that are historical sites that you can dine at. Most are still open to the public and present a fascinating way to tour and add to the experience of traveling or just exploring the state of Virginia.
A bit of history is given about each one and there is one or more recipes from each included. There is an index for the recipes
The categorization is a bit esoteric and extremely hard to use. The book is divided into such areas as; bistros, my hometown, goods and services and carry me back. Some, such as The Homestead are included several times under different categories, using the various dining facilities. It would have been easier to use this book if it was done by geographic areas.
One of the problems comes in the restaurant index; the various dining areas are not listed, for example under The Homestead, but under each place to eats' name. If you are in a certain area, even at The Homestead you have to know the name of the restaurant you want to look up.
It makes for a nice book to read but as for use as a guide to eat when you are traveling it is impractical.
